LICK IT GOOD

Im sure you know that we’re into The Martin Brothers in a big way… their latest single Steal Drums has destroyed the cave on many an occasion and “Dum” is one of our favourite tracks of all time! But branching out on their own these two are just as devestating. If you’ve copped the October Top 10 Mix then you’ll recognise this track from it, an awesome mash of Alter Ego, Claude Vonstroke, Khia and of course Christian Martin. We love the drawn out vocal loop over building over the rough synths, keeping you waiting for a whole 5 minutes before we get stuck into some real business. A sturdy bassline, strange futuristic vocal echoes, plinky plonky techno melody and a good old fashion dollop of JACK make this one bump along with a presence. Thanks to JACKMODE you can download this one for freemans… click the arrow at the side of the player below douchebag.

WELL ROUNDED

In just over a year since their first release, Well Rounded Records out of Brighton has gone from strength to strength, releasing some of the biggest E.P’s of the year. Some of the brightest up and comers are releasing on this label, and with a roster including Deadboy, C.R.S.T, Hackman and Donga (who also happens to be the label head) you can see why.

Future releases from Well Rounded include a 10″ from Submerse with 2 tracks entitled ‘Hold it Down’ and ‘Only’, which features Resketch. Hold It Down has a great UKG-esq vibe at a 140 tempo with catchy chopped up vocals. Only however, is a little bit slower and has a distinctive Niche bassline feel (Don’t call it a comeback!). Look for the release in shops from October 25th.

WRND007 Submerse ‘Hold It Down’ / Submerse & Resketch – ‘Only’ 10″ Street Date 25.10.10 by Donga
Following Submerse is one of the most highly anticipated releases for those in the know, Cash Antics Vol. 2.

Cash Antics Vol. 1 dropped way back in May and just highlighted some of Deadboy’s RnB edits that he’s famous for. Vol 2 picks up where the first one left off, and features his edit of Drake’s ‘Fireworks’ – a track which has been seriously racking up the hits on YouTube and mentioned numerous times on this site.

Other artists featuring on the E.P are Gongon & Bad Autopsy, Skinnz with the cherry on top being Doc Daneeka’s almighty edit of Gatto Viola -Back Stabbin Angie (For A 10 Bag). Beware…this song has one of the infectious hooks EVER. Cash Antics Vol. 2 drops in shops on November 9th.

CARIBOU

Massivly into what these guys are doing right now and pretty much fallen in love with these two tracks in particular. When i first heard Odessa i thought it was another new project from Erlend Øye, but its not, its a project by Daniel Snaith of Ontario, Canada, and the more observant of you will have spotted that they’re playing the Warehouse Project on the Kieran Hebden night… here’s what they say

“Formerly known as Manitoba before a legal dispute forced him to use the moniker Caribou, Daniel Snaith is a highly acclaimed electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario, Canada. A tutor at Red Bull’s Music Academy, he has become known for his ability to mix sonic experimentation and improvisation with accessible pop structures and vocals with dazzling results, a talent he has described as being linked to his propensity towards science and mathematics, holding a PhD in pure maths. Releasing several albums on Domino offshoot Leaf and Merge records, such as The Milk Of Human Kindness, Andorra and this year’s universally praised Swim, he performs constantly around the world, his live show famous for its bizarre costumes, playful sonic experimentation and dazzling originality.”

Cant argue with that… front and centre for us!

WHAT’S NEW COMA CAT? WHOOA-WHOA-WHOOOAOH

He’s all ears (plus some limbs, organs, fur, teeth and most importantly CUNNING)

You’ll be more than aware if you’ve been down to the cave in the last couple months that Tensnake’s Coma Cat is massive. So massive in fact that it can only be measured in comparison to football pitches (or double decker busses if you’re going for size, washing machines for weight).

However, nobody likes to repeat themselves (bar Soulwax perhaps) so it is with perfect timing that Round Table Knights (Contort Yourself guests way back in October ‘08 dontcha’ know) have sprinkled their brand of bumpy, tropical magic on the little blighter and spruced it up REAL nice.

WHAT WENT WILD?

ppp-38

In another new and pretty much action packed topic that we’re staring on this blog we’ll be attempting to sift through our hazy memories of the last rave, looking at the back of record bags, checking out playlists and basically asking people that were less drunk than us to round up the tunes that went off and made the night.

so without further a do… here’s (from what we can remember) went wild:

Jamie Jones – Ruckus
Skream- I Love The Way
Mr. Oizo – Flatbeat
Shit Robot – I Got A Feeling
Kelis – Millionaire
Debruit – Nigeria What
Beastie Boys – Sabotage (Alex Metric Remix)
Jackpot – Brief Encounter
Diplo – Percao ft. Pantera Os Danadinhos
Joris Voorn – Sweep The Floor
Tony Lionni – Found A Place

TRAMP! CLASSIC TRAX

1. Brooklyn Express- 69
This was a huge TRAMP! disco smasher that I still play on a regs.

2. Splack Pack- ‘Shake dat ass’
Probably the funniest piece of get ‘nasty ass’ ghetto booty shakin bass music I have ever heard. One of my dancefloor weapons I play when I’m drunk.

3. Chromeo ‘Needy Girl’
I could not do a list without including this track. Electro lover funk for the spandex generation.

4. Outkast- Ghetto Musick
This just makes people go a bit silly. Outkast are way ahead of the hip-hop curve.

5. Venom & Damage- Deeper

This is a new selection I have chosen, been going down really well in recent DJ sets. Uk funky with epic rave piano chords.

PARTY KILLER

The original Hugh Grant of the dancefloor is back… David E Sugar played for us over 2 years ago and pretty much crushed it. He had some banging singles at the time and Kitsune were all over him like a rash. But since then everything in the E Sugar camp has been distinctly quiet, which is why we’re happy to catch this ace new single and word of a full album in due in October. Having previously had release on the aforementioned “Fox” and CoYo Fave’s Greco Roman, its safe to say he’s lining this one up for the poppier end of the dancefloor. Party Killer drips with lazy jangly guitars reminiscent of Talking Heads, great vocal hooks, saddling up against the likes of Hot Chip and Friendly Fires, what’s more it comes with a killer video.

As much as we’re into kicking back to the original the dance floor wants more, so this is where previous CoYo guests Renaissance Man step in treating us to a full on blissed out tech house monster, with all the trademarks and trimmings that has come to make this pair one of the most in demand remixers on the block!

TLGB WINTER HUNTER MIXTAPE

A while ago we told you to keep an eye out for this lad… at the end of the last year we were hammering his “Drinkies” track with its daft samples and wonky bassline, but now he’s back with another great release and special mixtape to accompany! The lead track showcases his pop sensibilities with a shimmering vocal from folk singer Fiona Bevan. Having been likened to Erykah Badu and Joni Mitchell Fiona Bevan last year impressed on Channel 4’s ‘Orange Unsigned Act’ with Alex James of Blur describing her voice as “spine-tingling”. B-side ‘Skimmer’ sees Graham exploring more familiar territory with his trademark rough and rumbling beats, vocal cuts and a huge synth line. The release is aleady being supported by the likes of Edu K, Foamo, Malente and more with a remix package from Bare Noize, Blaze Tripp and Shooting Horses to follow sortly.

MEGAMIX RETURNS

Click For Facebook Event Page

THE MEGAMIX IS BACK!!! I’m sure you all know the drill by now, but for those of you new to the concept here’s how it goes:

Each Night/DJ gets a 30 min slot to burn out the purest heat, all killer no filler, sweep the floor and get the party juiced in good style. The final hour results in an every man for themselves, Back 2 Back, No Holes Barred, All Holes Plugged…Megamix!!!

We’ve lined up another cracking night filled with Manchester’s premier disc jockeying power:

NAÏVE MELODY: This year has been epic for NM, with some bookings that can only be described as that of “legendary” status…. Smagghe, Weatherall, Twitch & Wilkes, Baldelli, ooooft! Anyone putting together parties like this knows what’s up so we don’t need to tell you that they’ll crush it proper!

EAT MY BEAT: Batty Bass, Wonky House, Tropical Techno, whatever you want, these boys can bring it… if there’s a party that needs starting they’ll be sure to do the job reeeeeeaaaaaaaaal nice!

TRAMP!: Tramp was one of our favourite Manchester Nights ever, but since its death William has gone on to make a name for himself in his own right as one of the best djs in Manchester, and deservedly so. Regular bookings alongside the biggest boys in the business has seen him tearing into the biggest clubs and even taking over the reigns of the world famous OPTIMO for the night and also warming up for some guys called 2ManyDjs!?

NOWWAVE: These boys know their stuff… they’ve put on pretty much every band that is cool and even those that didn’t even know they were cool yet. They’re so far ahead of the curve one of them once managed to high five an apparition of himself from 2 weeks in the future? Needless to say they can handle themselves behind the wheels of steel, (Especially when asked to stand in for Scratch Perverts on the main stage of Parklife?!?) so get set for some serious party throbbers.

STOP MAKING SENSE: Every time I see these lads play they smack it… Tropical Dubs to Spaced out Techno to Pumping Disco, these boys’ will be heating it from the depths of their collection for you dancing pleasure.

CONTORT YOURSELF: Yeah that’s us… we’ll be going in strong and fast jackin’ out the house party rhythms and durty disco thumpers.

SOLO JACKMODE MIX

I hate the term “Midget House” that everyone seems to band around when talking about SOLO… It seems that every other day someone’s invented a new genre that last until 4pm that afternoon. What ever you want to call is SOLO is making some killer tunes and has been for the last few years, getting releases out on Sound Pellegrino, Exploited, Southern Fried, Ninja Tune and Deadfish to name a few, but this mix really nails home the direction he taking his music right now. With a frustratingly vague tracklist SOLO blends together jacking house, tropical thumpers and a few of those “oh so cool” retro vocal samples that sound like their out of 1950’s downtown speakeasies.

We’ve wanted to get him up to the cave for ages, but never been able to make the dates work so its good to see the lads over at Prostitutes & Policemen have bagged him up for their freshers special when the new terms starts alongside Glimpse, Julian Jeweil and a Manchester debut for COYO Fave Harvard Bass!

Surkin X Revolver Mixtape (Discobelle Exclusive) by Institubes on Mixcloud
