TOO HOT CITY

HOT CITY is so hot right now… He’s up there as one of my favourite producers of 2010, hitting the nail on the head with a bass heavy jackin’ garage sound that carves the dancefloor to pieces. He’s just dropped his latest single “Another Girl” on Moshi Moshi of all labels, and to promote its release he’s giving away this bootleg version of “Freakin Hot” by Another Level… Yeah its a lot!

Another Level – Freakin Hot (Hot City bootleg version)

Catch the full release directly from the MOSHI MOSHI site in all formats. PLUS he’s rumoured to have his first full length LP dropping 2011 on Moshi Moshi so watch this space… until then and as a bonus here’s a couple of his other productions from a while back that have seriously been heating up the dance floor.

Dan Black – Symphonies (Hot City Remix)

TWEEK-A-HOLIC

All round smasher and NUMBERS boss Jackmaster just dropped this slice of dirty euro disco pop decadence the other day on the Numbers Podcast. It’s been going down a treat at COYO headquarters so we thought we’d share it with you lot. While we’re on the subject you should keep an eye out on his twitter ( @iamjackmaster ) as every now and then he jumps on board USTREAM and just gets oiled up and just plays out some of the tunes that he’s into, exclusive promos, re-edits and forthcoming tracks from a whole host of red hot labels. If you’re hooked up you can follow his station here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jackmaster-radio, if not just keep them peeled… oh and he’s coming back to Manchester, albeit on a school night playing Hit’N'Run on the 25th Ocotber so stick that one in your diary! Until then get stuck into this mix:

MAJOR LAZER GET YORKE’D

Thom Yorke, yesterday.

Well, well, well. Thom Yorke’s been a busy little bee on the remix front recently with efforts for DOOM and Liars, but this one takes the biscuit.

Far more dance floor orientated than than any of his previous forays into the remixing game whilst still being incredibly dark. Plus with Diplo arsing about with Tiesto and everyone sick to the back teeth of dreadful ‘Pon De Floor’ remixes this couldn’t have come at a better time for the Major Lazer camp.

It’s never gonna be an anthem but it might scare the shit out of someone!

LIGHT YEAR

If Light Year have passed you by don’t sweat, if you’ve been down to one of our raves over the past months then you’ll have heard them no worries… We’ve been banging out their tunes like they’ve been going out of fashion. They dropped their debut EP on Bang Gang a few months back and its been getting seriously rinsed from all the big players, and us. We fell in love with “Sex Education” form the Bang Gang’s podcast and as soon as it dropped we were all over it like a rash! We’ve dropped low rate mp3’s here of our two favourite tracks form the 6 track EP… check them out and if you’re feeling them get over to JUNO Download and buy the full release.

TLGB WINTER HUNTER MIXTAPE

A while ago we told you to keep an eye out for this lad… at the end of the last year we were hammering his “Drinkies” track with its daft samples and wonky bassline, but now he’s back with another great release and special mixtape to accompany! The lead track showcases his pop sensibilities with a shimmering vocal from folk singer Fiona Bevan. Having been likened to Erykah Badu and Joni Mitchell Fiona Bevan last year impressed on Channel 4’s ‘Orange Unsigned Act’ with Alex James of Blur describing her voice as “spine-tingling”. B-side ‘Skimmer’ sees Graham exploring more familiar territory with his trademark rough and rumbling beats, vocal cuts and a huge synth line. The release is aleady being supported by the likes of Edu K, Foamo, Malente and more with a remix package from Bare Noize, Blaze Tripp and Shooting Horses to follow sortly.

MEGAMIX RETURNS

Click For Facebook Event Page

THE MEGAMIX IS BACK!!! I’m sure you all know the drill by now, but for those of you new to the concept here’s how it goes:

Each Night/DJ gets a 30 min slot to burn out the purest heat, all killer no filler, sweep the floor and get the party juiced in good style. The final hour results in an every man for themselves, Back 2 Back, No Holes Barred, All Holes Plugged…Megamix!!!

We’ve lined up another cracking night filled with Manchester’s premier disc jockeying power:

NAÏVE MELODY: This year has been epic for NM, with some bookings that can only be described as that of “legendary” status…. Smagghe, Weatherall, Twitch & Wilkes, Baldelli, ooooft! Anyone putting together parties like this knows what’s up so we don’t need to tell you that they’ll crush it proper!

EAT MY BEAT: Batty Bass, Wonky House, Tropical Techno, whatever you want, these boys can bring it… if there’s a party that needs starting they’ll be sure to do the job reeeeeeaaaaaaaaal nice!

TRAMP!: Tramp was one of our favourite Manchester Nights ever, but since its death William has gone on to make a name for himself in his own right as one of the best djs in Manchester, and deservedly so. Regular bookings alongside the biggest boys in the business has seen him tearing into the biggest clubs and even taking over the reigns of the world famous OPTIMO for the night and also warming up for some guys called 2ManyDjs!?

NOWWAVE: These boys know their stuff… they’ve put on pretty much every band that is cool and even those that didn’t even know they were cool yet. They’re so far ahead of the curve one of them once managed to high five an apparition of himself from 2 weeks in the future? Needless to say they can handle themselves behind the wheels of steel, (Especially when asked to stand in for Scratch Perverts on the main stage of Parklife?!?) so get set for some serious party throbbers.

STOP MAKING SENSE: Every time I see these lads play they smack it… Tropical Dubs to Spaced out Techno to Pumping Disco, these boys’ will be heating it from the depths of their collection for you dancing pleasure.

CONTORT YOURSELF: Yeah that’s us… we’ll be going in strong and fast jackin’ out the house party rhythms and durty disco thumpers.

SOLO JACKMODE MIX

I hate the term “Midget House” that everyone seems to band around when talking about SOLO… It seems that every other day someone’s invented a new genre that last until 4pm that afternoon. What ever you want to call is SOLO is making some killer tunes and has been for the last few years, getting releases out on Sound Pellegrino, Exploited, Southern Fried, Ninja Tune and Deadfish to name a few, but this mix really nails home the direction he taking his music right now. With a frustratingly vague tracklist SOLO blends together jacking house, tropical thumpers and a few of those “oh so cool” retro vocal samples that sound like their out of 1950’s downtown speakeasies.

We’ve wanted to get him up to the cave for ages, but never been able to make the dates work so its good to see the lads over at Prostitutes & Policemen have bagged him up for their freshers special when the new terms starts alongside Glimpse, Julian Jeweil and a Manchester debut for COYO Fave Harvard Bass!

Until then get stuck into this mix recorded exclusively for JACKMODE.

In the second of our summer Co-Pro’s we’re teaming up with another Manchester institution MICRON for a one off special back in the 3rd Saturday slot! Last year we clubbed together and brought NOOB down to the cave for what was one of THE PARTYS OF THE SUMMER and this one shapes up to eclipse that!

STEAL DRUMS

The Martin Brothers are back again with another smasher on Dirty Bird that’s gonna drop real soon… We absolutely RINSED “Dum” off TheRocket Surgery EP, and pretty much all the tunes on that release even the bonkers “Capacitron” gets an airing now and again. But this is equally powerful, as with “Dum” its got that killer hook that grabs you by the plums, making you pay attention and as ever the production is second to none. The Release is backed up with remixes from Julio Bashmore and Riva Starr, the latter including a dub mix too!

Here’s the official blurb: “dirtybird continues to lay down new music that doesn’t sound like every other house label. Love it or hate it we stick to our San Francisco basslines. (and we love it)

The Martin brothers have released some of the biggest jams ever on dirtybird. Now, the 2
brothers (Justin and Christian) return with another creative track featuring their signature marriage
of big bass and cool melody. One listener suggested it sounds like a “Happy Japanese village that
gets crushed by Godzilla.”

Remix riders come from the dirtybird stable with Julio Bashmore & Riva Starr taking the reigns.
Riva’s jacking renditions are the clubland answers for those too afraid to rock the original. Whilst
the Bashmore mix is a lush reinterpretation flush with 808s and shimmering melodica”

THE BEST OF EVERYTHING

So… French DJ/producer Brodinski was trying to decide what to put on his next mixtape when he had a minor freak-out, realizing he was presently obsessed with too much music to limit his wares. So he cut down his endless faves into two halves and gave the whole an appropriate moniker. But even presented separately, you can see how his lobes intersect—with the electro side a crushing techno coaster and the Southern-leaning hip hop side twerking mightily between scratches, clearly Brodinski is no shrinking violet when it comes to beats. – THE FADER

We highly recommend both these mixes so get downloading… full tracklists can be found here: http://best-of-everything.tumblr.com/

ESSENTIAL BOY 8-BIT

boy8bit(1)

Now i know this came out a while ago but i’ve only just peeped it and I’m properly into it…

Boy 8-Bit is one of the producers that seemed to emerge with the whole “fidget” sound which has died a death, but thankfully he had the foresight and talent to turn his productions into something more interesting and something that has longevity. His last two releases “Baltic Pine” EP and “The Keep” have both been staple hits in the cave and out on our travels, and we’re constantly waiting with baited breath for some new remixes to come our way!

Anyway, the Essential Mix Series has always brought out the best in its guests, giving them a good two hours to fill and take things a little deeper. Mr 8-Bit chocks together a healthy portion of his own tracks, remixes and re-edits alongside some of his favourite new and old jaunts, and alot of stuff that we’ve been championing recently… well worth a listen!

All In Two Sixty Dancehalls

med

We need to draw your attention to the KILLER new EP form the TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS. In this iPod generation the LP and the EP have fallen by the wayside, disregarded as tight wads cherry pick their favourite tracks rather than shelling out on a whole release? But belive us when we say this is well worth the £5.20 it will cost you on Beatport as there’s truly something for everyone here!

Garden (snippet) by T-E-E-D

First up we have GARDEN, which is a lovely little poppy number with a great vocal, perfect for summer days riding bikes through meadows with that girl from school you always had a crush on.

Blood Pressure (snippet) by T-E-E-D

Then we ramp it up to 140bpm jackin’ the hell out of the dancehall, mucky murky beats, jump up vocals courtesy of Riko, rave synths, sick!

That One (snippet) by T-E-E-D

then we get a killer bouncy, kind of future garage, tropical house wobbler… probably my favourite on the whole EP.

Dipper (snippet) by T-E-E-D

and finally, in a completely unexpected move, we’re into some late night techno reminiscent of POPOF with a rad loose kick and plinky plonky rhythm that seals the deal.

Like i said something for everyone, so go forth and purchase!
