We’ve had our eye on Hey Today for some time now…. One of said due had a large hand in the Boris Dlugosh smash “Bangkok”. This is their latest offering that is due out sometime soon on TURBO and has had the inter web nerds pissing themselves in anticipation. With previous releases on Kitsuné and Bang Gang Records, this pair come with a high pedigree. Watch this space cos you may see them down in the cave for a shift in the not too distant future.
With SURKIN due to cave in your faces at the weekend its good to hear a snipit of the first new material from said Parisian disco destroyer previewed on the Andy George & Jaymo show. Cant wait to get bled out by this beauty… lets goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
Two of my favourite lady deejays, Star Eyes and Jubilee, went on a magical mystery Midwestern tour not so long ago, and made a spanking video for all to see.
Its funny and plays host to a whole load of amazing wacky ish – The Asshole Castle, a call for more ham, serious shape throwing, topless dancers, cat barrow races and strobes. Lots of strobes!

Forget any ‘party rap’ preconceptions or doubts or you may have had about GoldieLocks, because I’m Not Her isn’t going to fulfil them. The new four track EP is a real testament to the huge lyrical progression and vocal sophistication of GoldieLocks since the Bear Safe EP. ‘Cold Sweat’ is led by an infectious chorus and xylophone riff, whilst ‘Neon Lights’ is an intergalactic duet with pop undertones. ‘Addict’ is a darker bass joint about messy, dysfunctional love and ‘Green Eyes’ is the eagerly awaited collaboration with Benga, which is a real chill-out garage inspired night-time tune.
Our boy Drums of Death has supplied the latest Resident Advisor mixtape and its a peach!!! Its sums up everything that he’s about. From the moment i met him i knew this dude was special, driving him back from Manchester airport after he’d played the night before the Greco Roman tent at Bestival, he was erratically dancing in the confines of the passenger seat and constantly spouting about how hyped he was on everything. Its dark and deep, with some ridiculously stupid moments of genius, delving into some classic tracks and blending them against the freshest dub plates… its been getting rinsed on the CoYo sound system so check it out.
In a new feature we’re running our gusts at Contort Yourself pick out 5 Classic Trax that shape the sort of sound you can expect to hear in the dance… First up and with his impending Dj set this Saturday we have the man who is JACKMASTER
We’ve had our beady little eye on this The Living Graham Bond for a while now and he’s recently just dropped his Debut “Incredibly Soft EP” on Venga Digital. We cut straight past all the lead track and jump straight on the B-Side which is a choppy glitchy wobbler with a rad little horn breakdown and daft vocal to boot! We love it and its been going down a storm in the dance.
Appearing on the scene earlier this year this DJ and producer “The Living Graham Bond” has steadily gained a reputation as an exciting new act to watch. Bootlegs of Olive, Stardust and Jack Penate (which you can download free from his myspace) have spread like wildfire through the blogosphere finding their way on to Radio 1 through fellow Essexian Kissy Sell Out. Continued play support from Kissy and finding himself featured on the Major Lazer Essential Mix prove that over the next year or so he’s seriously one to watch and 2010 will be as big as his basslines..
For a taste of what he’s about check out this rather tasty little mixtape:
1 – LMFAO – La La La (Terror Dactel Remix)
2 – Christian Martin – Elephant Fight (Justin Martin Remix)
3 – Simian Mobile Disco – The Count
4 – Riton & Primary 1 – Who’s There?
5 – Hannah Holland – Shake It Up
6 – Twizzle – Skydiving
7 – SIS – Trompeta
8 – Boy 8-Bit – Baltic Pine
9 – TLGB – Drinkies
10 – Major Lazer – Hold The Line (DJ Edjotronic Remix)
11 – Mastik Soul – Run For Cover
12 – Beenie Man – Dude (TLGB Remix)
13 – Raziek – Wake Up (Zombie Disco Squad Remix)
14 – La Roux – Bulletproof (TLGB / Boo To A Goose Remix) Download the mix
Them boys RITON & PRIMARY 1 have teamed up again after the success of their first collaboration together “Who’s There?” with this new blaster “RADIATE”
I got sent the promo of this the other day and i frickkkkkkin’ LOVE it but it sat there all alone on the CD and at 2 minutes 34 seconds long its begging for some remixes… cant wait for them to drop!
After a three year hiatus, New York’s Shy Child are returning in 2010 with a sound that’s more lush, dense, intoxicating, and surprising than ever.
Their previous album, the critical and commercial breakthrough “Noise Won’t Stop”, brought the duo of Pete Cafarella (vocals, keytar) and Nate Smith (drums) to worldwide attention, landing them supports with the likes of The Klaxons and bringing them on a global tour that took in Europe, the US and Australia, and even performing for Stella McCartney at Swarovski’s Fashion Rocks event, and Jools Holland on “Later…”. Their forthcoming album however, released on the venerable Wall of Sound label, promises even more. It is brimming over with a surfeit of offbeat ideas and addictive melodies, overstuffed with their trademark infectious beats and off the wall flourishes.
‘Liquid Love’ is released on March 1st 2010. The first teaser from the album ‘Criss Cross’ is currently being given away for free from their website and its rather tasty so grab your copy now: http://www.shychild.com/
This song has been stuck in my head all week. Recently released on DFA, James Curd is a Disco / House producer hailing from Chicago… keep and eye on him as we’re digging his output right now.

Im not here to talk to you about Retro/Grade The game you play as ace pilot, Rick Rocket, who must repeat his last space battle in reverse in order to protect the space time continuum or Retrograde Ejaculation the unfortunate condition where semen travels into the bladder rather than exiting the body, but that of Retro/Grade the Italo-disco project from Serge Santiago and Tom Neville.
TTheir Debut single ‘MODA’ was released super limited vinyl and has been supported by the likes of; Erol Alkan, Simian Mobile Disco, A-Trak, Annie Mac, Kissy Sellout, Pete Tong, Riton, Trevor Jackson, DJ Mehdi, Brodinski, Seth Troxler to name drop a few! Their second single ‘ZOID’ is out in November and full album is Due early 2010 and has everyone salvating at the mouth. Inspired by a time between disco and house where synths were used with disco and when drum machines were used to keep a track in time, their tunes have an authentic Italo sound without any of the corniness that come with much of this harking back to a bygone era. Clearly designed for devastating dance floors and Retro/Grade do that with easy… they are gonna be huge so keep your eyes on this project as its solid gold!
Get over to RCRDLLBL for a free download of their debut single MODA (Radio Edit).
Fenech-Soler’s new single “Lies” drops in a few weeks (2nd of November to be precise) on Jaymo & Andy George’s label Moda Music. We’ve had our eye on these guys for a while now… Their debut single was produced and released by Alan Braxe on his Vulture label, They’re currently tour with Groove Armada and the Press is deservedly all over them right now. This new track is testament to the fact that this 4 piece from Peterborough are destined for dizzying success as its clear they have a firm grasp of both daytime radio playability and club dynamics with their effortless mix of dirty dance floor funk, crunchy French electro synth sounds and sing-a-long vocals.

Stunning new mix from some of my absolute favourite dance music producers/ DJ’s on the planet. A true masterclass in creating a mix filled with unclassifiable genres. Ranging from the ‘aqua-crunk’ of Rustie, Space R&B from Missy, the floating ,dreamy pop of Animal Collective to stripped down nagging minimal of Robert Hood interlaced with Uk Garage and god knows what else, all glitched, chopped and screwed to absolute perfection.
On paper it sounds like a mess but it all blends together beautifully. Mix of the year for me.
