Four Tet. Yes.

Kieran Hebden has been doing it for years. A former member of Fridge (well worth a listen) who enjoyed cult success in the late 90’s on Trevor Jackson’s now sadly defunct Output label, he started releasing music as Four Tet in 1998.

Today sees the release of his 5th full length studio album, ‘There is Love In You’. So to get you in the mood, here’s some of his finest work, including one of my all-time favourite remixes, a track from his recent collaboration with Burial and the EPIC lead single from TILIY.

You can also catch Four Tet LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! with our good friends NOW WAVE on March 11th at Manchester Club Academy. More info on that available HERE

ENJOY.

This Dance In No White Mans Business

Was doing some digging through some old records and came across this Filthy Filthy Stomper… if you dont know about Material then start diggin.

I’M NOT HER

Forget any ‘party rap’ preconceptions or doubts or you may have had about GoldieLocks, because I’m Not Her isn’t going to fulfil them. The new four track EP is a real testament to the huge lyrical progression and vocal sophistication of GoldieLocks since the Bear Safe EP. ‘Cold Sweat’ is led by an infectious chorus and xylophone riff, whilst ‘Neon Lights’ is an intergalactic duet with pop undertones. ‘Addict’ is a darker bass joint about messy, dysfunctional love and ‘Green Eyes’ is the eagerly awaited collaboration with Benga, which is a real chill-out garage inspired night-time tune.

BIG IN THE GAME!!!

MPFREE – Ghosts Of Venice “ILFTB” EP

ILFTB Artwork

This is the first release from the UK’s fastest growing Filter Disco House producer Ghosts Of Venice. ‘I Learned From The Best’ is a tribute to 80’s Diva Whitney Houston with a nod to House legends ‘Le Knight Club’ along the way. ‘Her’ is a straight up summer Disco jam with looping samples and bouncy 909 beats. Jo Kira chops the hell out of the eponymous track and lays it over a broken 4/4 beat whilst Bobby Analog provides a stomping rave fuelled remix. Newcomer Penny For The DJ keeps the party going with a remix of wobbles so big that they’ll melt your face right off.

Keep an eye out in the next few months for Ghosts Of Venice remixes of Grum, Heads We Dance, Monarchy, Ocelot, and Le Principle. As well as a USA Tour in February.

“The Original Mix of ‘I Learned From The Best’ is my favourite.” – Grum

“Absolutely adore the original mixes of both. ‘I Learned From The Best’ is definitely going in the play box. Full support from us.” – White Girl Lust (Solid Bump Records)

“I Learned From The Best’ is cool but ‘Her’ is my favourite, I really like this one, the way you use the sample is great!” – The Phantom’s Revenge

“I’m a huge fan of both original mixes. ‘Her’ is my personal favourite” – Laberge

Tracklisting:
1. I Learned From The Best (Original Mix)
2. Her (Original Mix)
3. I Learned From The Best (Jo Kira Remix)
4. I Learned From The Best (Bobby Analog Remix)

EGYPTRIXX IS COMING!!!

egyptrixx_flyer_print

After slaying the start of 2010 with the Megamix last Saturday we’re very much looking forward to our next installment of down in the rave cave! New up we have the truly original EGYPTRIXX jetting in all the way from Canada to smash our skulls in with a cavalcade of wobbly electronica, 4×4 step and batty bass! If you’re not familiar with is his musical stylings then we point you no further than the below video to give you a little taster of what’s to come…

TASTE OF THE EXOTIC…

I’m flexing my versatility muscle on this one. I wanted to make a mix full of exotic bass as extreme escapism from the snow and I’m sure you’ll agree that dubstep doesn’t really do that. Pour yourself a glass of rum, turn the heating up high, close your eyes and use your imagination to dagga along to it with your number one squeeze. It kinda works.

Esqueezy’s ‘99.9% Dubstep Free’ Mix by ESQUEEZY

1. Riva Starr feat. Trim – Dance Me (Jesse Rose’s ‘Made In St. Lucia’ Remix)
2. Tony Matterhorn – Dutty Wine (Douster Remix)
3. French Fries – Coconut
4. Sissy Nobby – Lay Me Down (DJ Sega Remix)
5. Noveau Yorican – Boriqua (Jean Nipon Bootleg)
6. Sidney Samson feat. Wizard Sleeve – Riverside (Lil Silva Remix)
7. Uffie – MCs Can Kiss (Zombie Disco Squad Remix)
8. Ladybox – Hit My Ride (AC Slater Remix)

Enjoy!

I’M THE SHIT IN EAST ATLANTA

Whoa whoa whoa. Gucci Mane was all I listened to in NY, and I brought the obsession back to the UK with me. You can’t ignore a rapper who wears Bart Simpson and Kelloggs Frosties ice around his neck. Sadly, Gucci is stuck behind bars at the moment due to ‘probation violation’. But not to worry, Mad Decent megastar Diplo has got together a bunch of hype producers to remix the best bits of Gucci’s Cold War Mixtapes. The results are off the hook, with tracks that even mash together Gucci’s grilled slur with ATB and Daniel Bedingfield samples. Yeah, I know…bizarre but when you listen it makes a whole lot of sense.

And what’s more, all these beauties are available to download on Mad Decent’s blog for FREE. With one tiny bit of small print…like the South Rakkas Stimulus Package, all you have to do is sign up for the Mailing List to activate the D/L link. Not asking much really, seeing as Flying Lotus, Douster, Mumdance, Eymnd and Diplo himself were some of the star remixers.

COP COP COP it here!!!

HEAVY BASS WORKOUT

Was one of your shitty resolutions a pact to lose weight in 2010? Be buff? Get a bang tidy bikini body? I’ve got a bit of knowledge I’m gonna share with you. Cop yourself a load of AC Slater’s guest mix for Annie Nightingale’s Radio 1 show at the T&B blog here.

With a whole bunch of heavy remixes, new T&B joints and collabs with Ninjasonik/Mumdance/77Klash it’ll have you throwing down a star jumps, squats and lunges in your lounge. I watched (and believed) far too much Newsbeat as a kid, and it told me dance was the most fun form of exercise. That’s probably why I’m always dancing on the speakers and hanging from the rafters. Heavy bass workouts man, big in 2010.

HOT JACKIN’ MIX TREAT

Wowo two very recent Contort Yourself guests, Jackmaster and Hot City, have been covered on Dazed Digital this week. And what’s more, they’ve both dropped a little mix in there too. Hot City’s article and garage rave concoction can be found here along with a sweet little CY mention.

Scottish music impresario Jackmaster lays down some funk, glitch and juke in his exclusive Dazed mix which is available here.

It’s in in prep for the Numbers takeover in Fabric Room 1 tomorrow night, so if you’re lucky enough to be in the Smoke and looking for a twisted party that will wear the soles off your shoes, then this is for you. Line-up stretches so far to even include melodic garage don, Todd (The God) Edwards as well as Hot City, boy of the moment Joy Orbison, Mosca and Jackmaster himself.

South Rakkas Crew… that’s Mad Decent of you!

So the nice people at Mad Decent have decided to give away the new album from South Rakkas Crew for nishmans… well nearly, you just have to sign up to their mailing list to get it. Get yours here: http://maddecent.com/stimulus/
